TOUGH LUCK FOR IDDON ON HOME SOIL

Pemberton Tyres-backed rider Christian Iddon endured a tough weekend in his home round of the British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park.

Christian qualified ninth onboard his Oxford Tag Triumph 675 and was pushing towards the top six in the opening race of the weekend when an engine issue on the third lap forced him to retire.

Despite the early retirement, his best lap was good enough for ninth on the grid again for race two but a clutch issue on the green flag lap hit his hopes of making up places before an electrical problem developed which ultimately saw him slip back to 19th place at the finish.

“I probably didn’t have quite the same pace as I did at Brands but after the disappointment of the engine failure in race one we found something in morning warm-up and then had a direction for race two,” he said. “Unfortunately the clutch started misbehaving – sometimes I had engine braking sometimes I had nothing and was just coasting it in on the front end.

“It’s another disappointment and I’m keen to get some points on the table – I’ve been lapping fast enough to run at the front so I know that I’m capable of getting on the podium – we just need a bit of luck on our side and we’ll be there.”

Christian’s next outing in the series is at Croft in North Yorkshire on the weekend of 13/15 May.
