LYNCH READY TO KICKSTART 2012 CAMPAIGN

Westhoughton-based racer Tony Lynch will hope to make a winning start to his 2012 racing campaign when the new Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship season gets underway this weekend at Lydden Hill.

The new season will be Tony’s third in the Suzuki Swift Sport Rallycross Championship, with the Lucas Oil Team Geriatric driver having finished second in the standings for the past two years.

With his team having worked hard to prepare the Suzuki for the opening round of the season, Tony will now hope for a repeat of the victory he secured at Lydden Hill last year.

However, with a bumper field of almost 20 cars set to compete in the first Swift Sport Rallycross Championship round of the year, Tony is well aware that a hard-fought weekend lies ahead.

“It’s been a busy week getting the car ready as we were waiting on a few parts, but after a few late nights we’re ready and raring to go,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to the weekend and can’t wait to get started on track. There are a lot of cars on the grid and the field is looking strong, but hopefully the experience we’ve gained with the Suzuki over the past two years will help us.

“I’ve been runner-up for two seasons in a row so we have one aim for 2012 and that is to make sure that we are fighting for the title at the end of the year. A win this weekend would be the perfect start.”

Tony’s 2012 campaign will take on added importance as he plans to use his entry in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship to raise funds for the Colorectal Department at the Royal Albert Edward Hospital in Wigan, where he was treated while ill back in November 2001.

“It’s ten years now since I was taken ill and I wouldn’t be here now if it hadn’t been the treatment I received,” he said. “Now I really want to use the season ahead to help raise funds for them as a way of saying thank you for everything they did for me.”
